Iles d’Hyères Yacht Charter, French Riviera

South of St Tropez, and off the main coast of France you can sail your charter yacht to the little archipelago of Iles d’Hyères, where wooded hills tumble down to wide, sandy bays. Although there are four islands in the Iles d’Hyères, the main two are Ile de Porquerolles and Ile de Port-Cros . Porquerolles offers protected anchorages in almost all conditions along its sheltered north shore. Drop anchor here and enjoy the refreshing, idyllic clear blue waters, although try to drop it on a sandy patch and avoid damaging the rare sea grass fields. For just a moment, you can forget the lights and the glamour and open your eyes, upon a whole new natural world.

The islands are quaint. Most people get around on bicycles and locals still play ‘boules’ in the central square. Ile de Port Cros is a protected nature reserve with strict rules regarding the prohibition of road traffic, smoking outside the village and fishing within 50 m of shore. Although it may appear harsh, the tight rules have allowed Port Cros to remain relatively unscathed, as Porquerolles have many day tourists each summer.
