CMN Yachts

CMN – Constructions Mécaniques de Normandie – is a French shipyard located in Cherbourg (Normandy), which employs approximately four hundred skilled workers covering the various specialities required for the construction of luxury yachts and navy ships. Since the foundation of CMN in 1945, over 350 vessels in wood, aluminium, steel and advanced composite materials have been launched. Thanks to the experience gained in the construction of military ships and to its engineering, CMN realises technologically well advanced ships. The location of the shipyard and its military infrastructures guarantees an absolute discretion to the yacht Owners.

Ambassador of luxury and French-style elegance in yachting, CMN manufactures the largest and most prestigious yachts in France. CMN is able to build or refit sailing and motor yachts up to 80m. The construction is done entirely under sheltered halls (48 000 sqm of covered facilities), on a total surface of 110 000 sqm. The yard is equipped with a slipway able to launch superyachts up to 50m, and has access to a 3000 ton Syncrolift (lift area of 32m x 90m).

JMV Industries, a subsidiary of CMN, is specialised in the construction in pre-preg composite (carbon laminates and nomex honeycomb) of high-tech racing yachts and multihulls. The shipyard is situated 3.30 hrs from Paris by car and it is accessible by private aircrafts via Cherbourg airport (Maupertus), which is 15 minutes from the construction site. CMN Yachts also has an office in the centre of Paris, nearby the Champs Elysées, and one in the South of France.

In 2009, CMN has delivered two 60m MY, Slipstream and charter yacht Cloud 9. Motor Yachts Slipstream and Cloud 9 have cruised around the world extensively and have each covered more than 50 000 nautical miles and have been awarded 6 times:

In 2009, Nymphenburg prize for best design at the Monaco Yacht Show; International Superyacht Society (ISS) (2): Best motor-yacht in the category 40-65m / best interior (all categories, sailing yachts and motor-yachts over 24m);

History

CMN Yachts dates back to 1912 when Felix Amiot aircraft put Normandy on the aeronautical stage. However aircraft production gave way to shipbuilding and developing advanced high performance vessels was the driving force to develop the CMN shipyard into cutting edge technology. Computer technologies, engineering techniques and quality work hand in glove with the drive to compress build times and production quality and exceptionally engineered luxury superyachts.

In the sixties CMN brought their knowledge of leading edge technology to the yachting industry with the construction of serials of Maïca, an 11-metre sailing yacht designed by Illingworth and Primrose. The 1970’s and 1980’s brought Paul Ricard for Eric Tabarly and Kriter IV for Olivier de Kersauzon.

Built in 1989, the aluminium ice-breaking exploration (expedition) sailing yacht Antarctica illustrated CMN’s innovative approach. This unique exploration ship was used as a support vessel for the Transamerica Expedition end the Erebus expedition.

With the luxury yacht market expending into larger and larger yachts in the nineties, CMN YACHT DIVISION undertook projects over 140’ such as the schooner Friday Star or the Expedition yacht French Look II. The new millennium saw CMN Yachts launching larger motor yachts like Bermie II and Héloval, and sailing yachts such as charter yacht Attimo and catamaran Lady Barbaretta.

Today, with the development of the CMN LINE 60 including 3 launches – motor yacht Netanya 8, Slipstream & Cloud 9 - CMN YACHTS is becoming a powerful new bench marque in luxury yacht building.
