Discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1493, this charming butterfly-shaped Caribbean island is now a French overseas department. There are excellent Guadeloupe yacht charters available because Guadeloupe is part of the Caribbean Leeward group of Islands which includes the very popular luxury yachting Islands of St Martin and St Barts with their fantastic harbours. Guadeloupe is also a known charter destination because it offers wonderful relaxed tranquility and natural beauty as compared to its more famous and busier neighboring Caribbean Islands. So what can you expect to experience on your Guadeloupe yacht charter?
Guadeloupe has several harbours and secluded un-spoilt anchorages that you enjoy. The coastline of the Island reveals gorgeous bays in the south such as Les Saintes, La Desirade, Petite Terre, Marie Galante. There is some definite French cultural influence remaining in Guadeloupe. The Jacque Cousteau Reserve is worth a visit with its exceptional snorkelling and diving at nearby Pigeon Island. The islands of Marie Galante and the picturesque Iles des Saintes lay just 20nm off the south of Guadeloupe. Also the mysterious Dominica Island is within easy reach when sailing to the south of the main Island. The famous Caribbean sailing destination of Antigua is also just 40nm to the north and of course the other main Islands in the Leeward group, St Martin and St Barts, are very close away.

As mentioned, although not as prominent in luxury yacht circles as St Martin or St Barts, Guadeloupe nevertheless offers three or so good ports. The biggest of the three and the one most suited to smaller superyachts is Bas-du-Fort. This marina has around 1000 yachts berths with up to 100 of those available for visiting charter boats. Pointe-à-Pitre is a smaller marina which is conveniently located just 10 minutes from the Guadeloupe airport (Pole Caraibes Airport, Guadeloupe's only airport, receives international flights from the USA and Europe as well as connecting flights from other neighboring Caribbean Islands). Although smaller by St Martin terms this port still takes all types of boats up to 130 foot in length. The third harbor is Marina de la Grande Saline. It is positioned near the southeastern tip of Grande-Terre which is  a foremost attraction of the St. François resort area. Marina de la Grande Saline provides 250 yacht berths. is There is also Marina de Rivière-Sens at Gourbeyre, with 300 berths, which is around five minutes from the capital of Basse-Terre.
