AL DIRIYAH was built for American shipping magnate Daniel K. Ludwig in 1960 in Japan under the name Danginn. After she was sold to Charles Revson of the Revlon cosmetics empire, who renamed her Ultima II she was reportedly sold to a European banker and named Serendipity. The yacht was then bought by Saudi billionaire Nasser Al-Rashid who named her Massarrah. It was Sheik Ahmed Yamani who bought and named her AL DIRIYAH.

National Bulk Carriers was the naval architect firm involved in the professional vessel plans for AL DIRIYAH. Her interior design was conceived by Ellen Mcclusky. National Bulk Carriers is also associated with the yacht general design work for this yacht. Built by National Bulk Carriers this yacht was constructed in the yacht producing country of Japan. She was officially launched in Kure in 1960 before being delivered to the owner. A fairly large proportion is manifested with a maximum beam (width) of 11.31 m or 37.1 feet.
