Endeavour was designed and built by the Camper & Nicholsons Yard in England as one of the yachts to challenge for the ultimate sailing yacht race - the America's Cup. She thereafter dominated the British yacht racing scene for many years and has always been renowned as the most beautiful J class classic yacht ever built.
Back in 1984 an American yachtswoman called Elizabeth Meyer bought S/Y Endeavour and undertook a huge five year rebuild of the yacht. As Endeavour's hull was too fragile to be moved from its position and she was many miles away from any boatyard, Meyer organised for custom a building to be constructed over the boat and for shipwrights and welders to restore the hull where it lay. Endeavour's missing keel and ballast were rebuilt and her frames and hull plating were repaired and replaced where necessary as well as and a new rudder being fabricated. After this work the hull was launched and towed to Holland where it was put on a barge and transported to the Royal Huisman Shipyard from where she was fully restored. Endeavour once again set sail on the 22 of June, 1989, for the first time after 52 years of inactivity!
