MOON SAND is the first yacht designed by Ward Setzer. The hull was constructed and all fibreglass work was done at the Sovereign Yard in Canada before the completed shell was shipped to New Zealand for completion. She was fully completed in 2004 and was the flagship of the Royal New Zealand Squadron during the last Americas Cup.

The yacht's general design work came from Setzer Design Group. The formal naval architecture drawings are the products of Setzer Design Group. Motor Yacht MOON SAND received her elegant interior designing from the interior design company of Deus Design. Created at Sovereign Yachts (Nz) the vessel was constructed in the known yacht building country New Zealand. She was successfully launched in Auckland in 2003 before being delivered to the owner. The core hull was built out of composite. The motor yacht superstructure component is made predominantly using composite. With a width of 8.43 metres or 27.8 feet MOON SAND has fairly large room. A fairly shallow draught of 2.08m (6.9ft) selects the amount of certain ports she can enter, taking into account their specific depth at low tide.
