Facing 500 nautical miles, the 100ft sailing yacht Esimit Europa 2 will attend the 8th edition of the Palermo – Monte Carlo regatta kicking off on August 18th in Palermo, Sicily. After winning last year as well as breaking the course record at the Giraglia Rolex Cup regatta in June, the sailing team of Esimit Europa 2 superycht led by German skipper Jochen Schümann is in advantageous conditions, aiming to beat the course record set in 2010.
Well accomplished European sailors coming from seven different countries are composing the Esimit Sailing Team, which united competes under the European flag. With luxury yacht Esimit Europa 2, one of the technologically most advanced sailing yachts in the world, the team is again participating at the 500 nautical miles long race, connecting the cities of Palermo (Italy) and Monte Carlo (Monaco) with two of the most renowned sailing clubs.
Race established in 2005 aims to start a new adventure which promises to become one of the most representative regattas of the Mediterranean. Esimit Europa 2 superyacht sailed out of her base in Antibes (France), heading towards Palermo, on Friday 10th August.
By establishing a new course record at the Giraglia Rolex Cup, the Esimit Sailing Team is highly motivated for future success
After breaking the course record by 3 hours and 6 minutes at this year’s 60th edition of the Giraglia Rolex Cup, the Esimit Sailing Team is looking ahead to new challenges. In favourable conditions, the European sports team, led by two times America’s Cup winner and three times Olympic champion Jochen Schümann, is aiming to break the record of 48 hours, 52 minutes and 21 seconds set in 2010. Looking from the tactical point of view, the Palermo – Monte Carlo regatta is a demanding race, in which Spanish navigator Juan Vila is ready to demonstrate his rich experience.
Esimit Europa 2 competing for the Yacht Club de Monaco
This year’s regatta, organized by the Circolo della Vela Sicilia in collaboration with the Yacht Club de Monaco, marks the 8th edition of this sports event. As a member of the Yacht Club de Monaco, Esimit Europa 2 yacht takes great honour and further motivation in competing for the club.
Besides being a member of the Yacht Club de Monaco, the Esimit Europa 2 yacht sails under the flag of the European Union, is registered on Cyprus, competes for the Slovenian Sailing Federation and on board joins sailors from seven different European countries. It is under the patronage of the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso. Its main sponsor is the global energy company Gazprom, while BMW is the official partner.
