The new Oceanco facilities in Zwijndrecht opened in May this year and the shipyard’s latest 109m/357.6ft mega yacht project Y720 has become the first hull received. She will now undergo all remaining construction at the yard, including interior painting, large equipment installation and the joining of the superstructure.
The facilities are located 10km away from Oceanco headquarters in Alblasserdam, where the luxury yacht will be transferred to for outfitting.
The new premises were acquired as part of the company’s long-term strategy for stable growth, expansion and consolidation of its construction activities; there is room for shipbuilding partners to set up office beside the facilities for greater efficiency in the construction process. The main area covers 570m/1,870ft x 200m/656ft for a total of 114,000m2/1,227,086ft2 and includes offices and conference rooms as well as construction facilities, outfit facilities, a piping shop, paint facilities and sandblasting facilities. They will be used for:
- Steel hull manufacturing for new builds
- Maintenance, refit and lifetime extension activities
- On-campus education
- Innovative engineering and design
This, in turn, will produce greater economic opportunities and sustainable practices in a circular economy for cost savings, creativity, job creation and improved energy usage and raw materials.
