With over 600 participants and more than 300 − 400 attendees throughout the day, the Marine Industry Cares Foundation 5th Annual Spin-A-Thon presented by the Cruise Industry Charitable Foundation was a great success. The event held to help two children’s and family charities in South Florida, Kids In Distress and the Children’s Diagnostic & Treatment Center, raised over $150,000.
For six hours the wheels never stopped turning. It was a high energy, fun-filled, festive affair from start to finish, which went well into the evening for the Event After-Party. “We can’t say a big enough thank you to everyone who helped make the 5th Annual Spin-A-Thon such a success,” said Mole Telfer, Marine Industry Cares Foundation Chairman. “To bring together such diverse cross sections of the marine community, large and small local businesses, government and community groups to raise awareness about the needs of children and families in our community and money for Kids In Distress and Children’s Diagnostic and Treatment Center is an accomplishment that we are extremely proud of,” he added.
Several local elected officials were on hand to help kick-off the event and participate in the spinning including City of Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler, Broward County Mayor Kristin Jacobs and Dania Beach Mayor Walter Duke. Mayor Seiler in his remarks said, “I love the Spin-A-Thon and when you can combine exercise and do something like this to bring everyone together to support two great organizations like CDTC and Kids In Distress, it makes for a great day in the City of Fort Lauderdale.”
MICF Chairman Mole Telfer recognized several people and companies that played an integral role in the event’s success after the countdown to the 7pm finish and air horns were blown. He acknowledged the support of presenting sponsor Cruise Industry Charitable Foundation and all the other major sponsors, in-kind sponsors and donors, in addition to MICF community partners Winterfest Boat Parade and Riverwalk Trust. Special recognition was given to the contributions of several key volunteers including Event Chair Mark Bononi, Melissa Gribas and Peter Hult of MHG Insurance Brokers, Sabrina Farmer and Beverly Grant of IMA Yachts, Paul Kahn, a Winterfest Board Member, Darla Skaf of Fairport Yacht Support and the management and staff of National Marine Suppliers.
