The famous Fairmont Hotel played host to this year’s annual Monaco Yacht Show Summer Party, held on June 19. The evening party was attended by a legion of the major superyacht industry members who arrived at the hotel to talk about the upcoming events of this year’s Monaco Yacht Show.
While the MYS organisers invited the yacht insiders to network with their peers on the eve of summer, they know perfectly well that the real event not to be missed will be at the end of the summer season: the 22nd Monaco Yacht Show.
From next September 19 to 22, the 2012 MYS will again bring together the captains of industry, the savvy owners and their representatives and the highest-net-worth clientele over four days of intensive meetings and viewings with 500 of the world’s leading superyacht companies on the stands.
The finest shipyards, the top yacht designers, the main broker agencies and the best superyacht equipment suppliers will all be in Port Hercules to exhibit their most innovative products and luxury services or their future projects of superyachts.
Organisers of the Monaco Yacht Show heralded this year’s edition of the event to be yet another busy year with new initiatives to spark new deals. Gaëlle Tallarida, Managing Director of the event, commented: “We are truly aware the MYS has become an event that many yacht companies can’t afford to miss out. Our role is to offer the best working and exhibiting conditions to all participants, so that they only have to focus on their main goal when attending the event: making business. It’s a one-year organisation to deliver such a worldwide event; we have set up collaborations with top-quality service suppliers to fulfill the demanding expectations of the exhibitors and visitors. They must feel at the right place with the right people to develop their business.”
So in coordination with the MYS organisers, the brokers and shipyards will unveil their most recent and spectacular superyachts, clearly aiming at presenting their best offering to convince new buyers.
As the clients are less pressured to buy, and feel they have more time to compare to get the right yacht at the right price, it’s definitely the time to buy. “Wealthy people are still there, and there is still a very good market for those who want to have a boat quickly. Smart clients with experience know that even with a custom build they have to wait three or four years, so this is a good moment to bite. Just like in a real estate market, if you have cash, you should be buying now. Because it’s likely that in two or three years you’re not going to see these prices anymore” (source: quote by Fabio Ermetto, Sales and Marketing Director at Heesen Yachts, extracted from the article “Prices will fall but charter won’t tumble” published in the 2012 MYS Summer magazine).
The yacht of one’s dreams will surely dock in port Hercules next September: 100 superyachts and megayachts, from 25 to 90 meters in length (with an average size of 46 m LOA) and around 40 new builds unveiled in world premiere.
While the full list of yachts will be released by mid-July, the show organisers have already registered the participation of a few outstanding superyachts like the 74-metre steel hulled megayacht Mogambo, launched by the German shipyard Nobiskrug in October 2011.
Amongst this year’s stars will be the 72.6m motor yacht Vicky, the largest and latest luxury vessel launched by Proteksan Turquoise Yachts at the end of June 2012. Another new yacht and once again one that has chosen Monaco at which to make her world debut is the 50.5m superyacht Better Place by the Monaco-based shipyard Wally. She’s the world’s largest sloop in carbon fiber and first sailing yacht ever developed to comply with RINA Green Star class.
Monte Carlo was made to host Diamonds are Forever. Named as such by her owner, fan of James Bond, the elegant 61-m megayacht Diamond are Forever launched by Benetti in November 2011 is a balanced combination of traditional design elements and modern innovative stylistic solutions which have become the signature of the Italian shipyard.
Named “Sailing Superyacht of the Year” during the 2012 World Superyacht Awards and with five International Superyacht Awards to date, the 67.2m Alloy superyacht Vertigo will definitely be one of the most awaited luxury vessels in Monaco.
The place to meet
The professionals know a rendezvous with their peers or with a future customer may be the key to their business success at the Monaco Yacht Show. The show organisers will present a completely new 650m² reception complex in the heart of the yacht show area, where one can hold all his meetings or invite his best customer to dine in the official restaurant, in a luxurious setting set aside for yacht show partners.
The Upper Deck Lounge, located in the air-conditioned tent of the Parvis Piscine (where the old restaurant-lounge area used to be), has been designed by interior decorators Sabrina Monte-Carlo in collaboration with Italian designer Paola Lenti, the French crystal manufacturer Baccarat and the art gallery Opera Gallery. It includes several reception areas reserved exclusively for executives of exhibiting companies, where they can talk with their customers in a comfortable, confidential setting.
New MYS official caterer for 2012, Private Dining by Fairmont Monte-Carlo offers top-flight menus in the elegant, sophisticated setting of its restaurant inside the Upper Deck Lounge, where exhibitors and their guests can talk business over a meal or simply relish the moment, enjoying a relaxed wine or champagne tasting.
At the image of this brand new luxury area, the MYS team is constantly seeking to further upgrade the show’s amenities and services for the benefit of the superyacht clientele, and once again promises to deliver a world-class event thanks to its partnerships with prestigious brands, notably providing a VIP shuttle service in association with the car manufacturer BMW, newly official sponsor of the 2012 MYS.
The German brand will present the new BMW 7 Series Luxury Saloon, which combines stylish design, luxury and comfort with top-class efficiency. Back to the show as official sponsor for the fourth consecutive year, the Swiss watchmaker Ulysse Nardin will showcase its finest collections of luxury watches on its exhibiting area inside the Upper Deck Lounge.
