The HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show 2012 provides visitors with the possibility to become acquainted with many aspects of watersport, comprising testing as well as improving their skills on the water. Both on the quay and in the Delta Lloyd Arena, there will be a large partitioned-off section of water in the inner harbour of the NDSM yard, offering the rich programme including activities such as SUPing, sailing in small (sail)boats, skills competitions in launch boats, jetskiing demonstrations, bubble walking, match racing, RIB stunts, lifeboat demonstrations and waterbiking.
SUP clinics and safari
The popularity of SUPing (stand-up paddling) is still growing in the Netherlands. The latest form of watersports, which has its origins in Hawaii, is becoming a real trend. The HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show offers visitors a short clinic and enables more advanced SUPers to paddle across the exhibition on their boards.
Sailing in open (sail)boats
Visitors and their children will have the opportunity to try out various types of small boats (sailboats and RIBs); a great and simple way to discover the fun of watersports.
Sloop sailing skills competition
In cooperation with sloop manufacturer Waterspoor Jachtbouw, the show will feature a daily competition giving visitors the chance to showcase their launch sailing skills. They will be put through their paces on a special course, with the most skilled skipper receiving a special prize at the end of each day.
Sailing lessons in Optimist sailboats (Delta Lloyd Experience)
Children can register for free sailing lessons in Optimist sailboats, under the watchful eye of professional instructors.
Mast climbing and rope work (Delta Lloyd Experience)
On board the schooner De Wylde Swan, which will be moored at the quay, courageous kids can climb the masts and enjoy a view high over the marina. Children who prefer to keep both feet firmly on the ground can learn the traditional art of rope work.
Jetskiing demonstrations
Professional jetskiers will demonstrate their skills to the public and show the versatility of this form of watersports.
Daring exploits in RIBs
Experience the excitement of manoeuvring in RIBs. Zigzagging around buoys, taking sharp bends at high speeds and whirling over the water; the professional pilots are sure to offer participants an experience to remember.
Manoeuvring clinics on a sailyacht
Visitors wishing to learn the basics of manoeuvring with an engine can join the instructors from De Zeezeilers van Marken for short daily clinics on a sailyacht, free of charge.
Manoeuvring for women
Throughout the exhibition, female visitors can hop on board the yacht of Motorboot magazine for a short manoeuvring lesson, free of charge.
Match racing
The weekend programme includes a match racing event in which two boats compete on a short course. Discover how experienced sailors determine their tactics and try to claim victory with their clever moves.
Bubble walking
A favourite activity for children during the boat show is rolling over the water inside large plastic bubbles.
Waterbiking
Explore the exhibition by water cycle while enjoying a delicious picnic. The exhibition will have a number of bikes available for visitors and lunch packages can be purchased for a small fee, offering the ideal way to see from the water all the beautiful yachts moored at the quay.
KNRM demonstrations
The Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (KNRM) will also be present at the HISWA Amsterdam in-water Boat Show. Check out cool lifeboats and listen to the impressive stories of crew members. Visitors might even be lucky enough to join them for a trip on the water.
Sailing and rowing simulator
For visitors who prefer to keep their feet on land, but who are curious to learn more about watersports, the exhibition features several simulators on the quay. These will teach the basics of sailing an Optimist or rowing in a Volans rowboat without getting one’s feet wet.
