The winners of the 2012 ShowBoats Design Awards were announced in front of a VIP audience of superyacht owners as well as the industry’s leading creative talents from all over the world on Friday 22 June at the Monaco Opera House.
Now in their third edition, the coveted golden Neptune awards have quickly become a symbol of pride and distinction for the industry’s design professionals. Twenty-one neptunes were awarded to the winners during a glittering gala evening hosted by broadcaster Annabel Croft.
Alloy Yachts’ 67.2m sailing yacht Vertigo was declared the evening’s big winner, with designers Philippe Briand and Christian Liaigre taking home three neptune awards for Exterior Design & Styling, Interior Layout and Best Recreational Space for Guest Use (for her novel midships lazarettes on the lower deck.)
David Ostrander of Iluminus Design Group was in attendance to collect the Newcomer of the Year Award, presented for the restyling of the interior of charter yacht SnowbirD. Peder Eidsgaard and the design team behind Feadship’s 77.7m motor yacht Tango received two awards for Exterior Design & Styling and for the design of T/T Tango, much admired by the judges for an appearance that subtly matched her mothership while boasting supreme comfort and first-class construction.
Musashi superyacht’s subtle blend of Japanese design with Bauhaus and American Art Deco influences saw Sinot Yacht Design triumph in the Interior Design 60m+ category, with Hemisphere and Hetairos taking joint honors in the sailing yacht classes.
The Young Designer of the Year Award once again attracted an extremely high standard of entries from aspiring yacht designers all over the globe. The winner, chosen by a panel of the industry’s leading creative talents, was judged to be Benjamin Julian Toth from Vienna for his project ReSeadence 50. Toth’s solution for converting a former 50m survey vessel into a yacht of ‘cutting edge design’ showed sympathy with the original vessel, but also incorporated novel design features within its avant-garde appearance.
