Yachting Developments New Zealand have now launched their sailing yacht Antares III superyacht in Auckland. The 100 foot / 30 m sloop superyacht Antares III – formerly known as project Meteor and Hull YD 69 – was designed by Bill Dixon, of Dixon Yacht Design, and her interior was created by Rhoades Young. The S/Y Antares III yacht was built in New Zealand for and experience sailing yacht owner who has owned three previous boats. The first Antares was Royal Huisman 40m ketch which was constructed using Alustar aluminum. Rhoades Young were also commissioned to design this yacht’s interior and Bill Dixon was also her designer.
Yachting Developments launched the 100 ft composite performance cruising sloop ‘Antares III’ from their yard in Auckland. This luxury yacht was constructed to comply with stringent Germanischer Lloyd and MCA classification requirements. The yacht’s modern underwater shape includes a high-aspect carbon fibre rudder with direct quadrant non-assisted steering which has been designed to produce absolute feel to her helmsman.
It is a testament to the Kiwi composite yacht building company that the 30 metre luxury yacht Antares III was built and launched in around 12 months. After some further fine tuning and sea trials the new superyacht will be handed over to her owners who plan to cruise the South Pacific.
Due to her advanced composite structure, she is a very strong sailing yacht which is nevertheless 25% to 30% lighter than similar vessels built in materials such as aluminium. The composite structure is post cure epoxy E glass/Carbon/Kevlar which integrates high strength foam sandwich hull technology. Her hull also boasts a Kevlar outer skin for outstanding impact resistance at sea.
Antares III’s blond teak interior was designed by Rhodes Young and was fitted out and built in-house by the Yachting Developments specialist craftsman. Her interior features wide walnut planked floors, comfortable sofas, and the owner’s stateroom is a full beam aft cabin with private access to the cockpit.
After her launch Antares III had her mast stepped in quick time. All her spars and rigging are carbon fibre with hydraulic furlers and her mainsheet is attached to an arch aft keeping the mainsheet clear of passengers and crew. Crew accommodation is forward and she was designed for a crew of four.
