November 2014 saw the arrival of the 50m Heesen motor yacht SKY at Monaco Marine’s La Ciotat shipyard, where she is currently undergoing the exterior makeover. In addition to superyacht SKY’s full paint job of her hull and superstructure, Monaco Marine is also managing the yacht’s 5-year survey, interior refit, including floors, sofa and ceilings, as well as overhaul of the main engines and generators.
Managing the paint job and 5-year survey simultaneously takes specialized project management skills. The coordination of mechanical work at the same time as delicate paint work is not an easy task, but thanks to Monaco Marine’s prior success in this on other projects it is working seamlessly on luxury yacht SKY. This not only saves project lead time and costs associated with logistics, it saves overall project costs which get passed on as savings to Owners and Owner Representatives.
Performance Yacht Painting (PYP) is Monaco Marine’s major partner on the project given their extensive experience on projects of this size and on even larger yachts. Of major benefit to super yacht SKY is that PYP and Monaco Marine La Ciotat have partnered on many previous occasions, which means that confidence and trust has been built up over time between the two parties to ensure a successful partnership and to deliver successful paint projects.
Yacht Hard Logistics (YHL) are dedicated to hardware management who, with their years of knowledge and experience, are able to suggest smart solutions for improvement and to make sure that each part removed from the yacht is fitted back in time and according to the highest standards. This is extremely important on a yacht like SKY superyacht, which has a very high number of hardware parts that require dismantling, inspection, protection, storage and cleaning.
Super yacht SKY project is due to be completed by early April, so while the ‘big reveal’ is still a little while away, Monaco Marine is pleased to share some of the work in progress.
