Motor yacht DARLINGS DANAMA, a 60m superyacht built by the CRN Shipyard – a Ferretti Group brand, has premiered at the Monaco Yacht Show 2012 (Montecarlo, 19th – 22nd September). The CRN shipyard which has always been synonymous to technological innovation – makes it possible for its megayachts to have hi-tech devices on board, and the new DARLINGS DANAMA superyacht is no exception. M/Y DARLINGS DANAMA is the first yacht made of steel and aluminium that has an exclusive system in the master suite. A system that allows noise reduction in the pillow area of the bed.
The Active Noise Cancelling system (ANC), installed onboard the 60m CRN motor yacht Darlings Danama, makes part of a wider research and development programme, which started in 2008 funded by the European Union and led by the CRN Shipyard of Ancona together with some partner companies from the Marche territory (Videoworks SpA of Ancona, Team Italia Srl of Fano, Isel Srl of Senigallia), Tecnomarche – a scientific-technological park in the Marche and the Polytechnic University of the Marche in Ancona.
“The main objective was to understand the state of art of some innovative technologies which will be applied in the nautical sector” explained Luca Boldrini, CRN’s megayacht sales director “Noise control is already present in other fields, from the aero-spatial sector to that of public works. In boating, the use of this system is completely different: yachts have cabins with very low levels of noise and noise cancelling systems are obviously not necessary, but they can be that something extra that would allow the Owner to be more comfortable. In the case of M/Y Darlings Danama, the challenge was to concentrate on resting and try to create a noise isolating cushion in the bed area of the master suite”.
The ANC system, designed and realized after more than 20 months of research, is highly innovative: if in the traditional application these technologies are found in a passive form (for example, through insulation), onboard the Darlings Danama motor yacht one will find a complex device with an active control.
ANC acts by emitting an acoustic wave that is identical to that emitted by the noise but an exact opposite frequency and this operation is carried out by a microphone that reads the acoustic frequency, a software that rapidly elaborates and emits identical waves that are in counter-phase, and a speaker.
In addition, the system can be activated and deactivated directly by the Owner or centralized by the captain guaranteeing:
• maximum efficiency for a wide range of frequencies;
• independent installation (it can be assembled first and then placed in the area of interest)
• intrinsic adaptability (the operative system keeps working in case of changes in the physical and environmental parameters, for example, the temperature of the cabin and the speed of the yacht);
• reliability and robustness of the various elements that it is made of;
• speakers and compact electronics, ideal to be installed on yachts of 24 metres and above.
“The ANC project is a good example of cooperation between the industry and the academic world, also thanks to the group of the Polytechnic Univerity of the Marche that adapted so well to the nautical world and aimed at industrial results in a very practical manner.” declared Maurizio Minossi, technical manager of Videoworks SpA.
“Our work group” added Prof. Francesco Piazza of the Polytechnic University of the Marche “saw the ANC project as an opportunity for technological transfer with high added value in a sector in which the Marche Region has undeniable international excellence, resulting from craftsmanship quality, but also an opening for innovative technology and collaborations with research bodies”.
M/Y CRN 130 60mt motor yacht Darlings Danama
Outdoor areas, minimal fittings and Art Déco style: “Darlings Danama” is a 60 metres fully custom megayacht made of steel and aluminium, manufactured by CRN – a Ferretti Group brand.
With its 5 decks, the superyacht Darlings Danama can accommodate up to 12 people – in 5 Vip cabins, besides the master suite – and 14 crew members. The external lines and the internal layout were designed by Studio Zuccon International Project, in collaboration with the CRN technical office that was responsible for the naval design. The interior décor was designed by the Owner’s architects, Cristina and Alexandre Negoescu, together with the CRN Centro Stile. Externally it has the distinctive features of the CRN mega-yachts: a stern that can be opened and transformed into a large beach club, a terrace in the master suite and a large sun deck.
