The lovely 65′ commuter motor yacht is the latest design, developed by the Spanish studio, Barracuda Yacht Design, for a Mexican client. Original designs sacrificed deck space in preference for greater enclosed accommodation. Barracuda’s 65′ commuter luxury yacht design, however, boasts a distinctly ‘Mediterranean’ feel and comprises a large, open aft-terrace and essential swim-boarding platform, as well as fixed bimini.
21st Century revisions include gyro stabilisers for zero rolling, an engine room positioned aft to reduce daytime noise, (originals normally had large mid-mounted engines), and independent, spacious quarters for three crew.
Six people are provided with comfortable accommodation in three double rooms. A classic American ‘colonial-style’ interior will have varnished mahogany and teak furniture, interspersed with white-painted wall and ceiling panels.
Constructed from timber/GRP epoxy composite, with cedar strip planking for the hull, sandwich bulkheads and plywood decks and superstructure, 12-14 knots cruising speed with 18 knots maximum will be available from an efficient hull offering economy and a comfortable ride.
Barracuda Yacht Design will provide more information on its 65′ commuter yacht design at the 2013 Monaco Yacht Show in September.
