Unveiled during the recent press conference at the Monaco Yacht Show attended by CharterWorld amongst others, the new AMELS 272 yacht is the latest Limited Editions concept by this prestigious Dutch builder, designed by renowned Tim Heywood. This new and exciting motor yacht AMELS 272 concept measures 84 metres and was presented by Amels and Tim Heywood himself aboard the impressive Sea Axe 6711 Fast Yacht Support Vessel Garcon 4 Ace, a fascinating 67-metre vessel accompanying the 87m mega yacht ACE by Lurssen.
Amels 272 Limited Editions Yacht in detail
The beauty of the Limited Editions concept is that it removes all the stress and uncertainty of pure custom construction. AMELS has done all the hard work in advance, the high-level research, development, and building that ensures the smooth and reliable operation of the yacht. Because you can create your own interior, with the stylist of your choice, you know that she’s going to look beautiful too.
The LE AMELS 272 yacht is the largest model in the successful Limited Editions family. In fact she is the largest yacht ever conceived by AMELS. Her sleek curves and elongated deck spaces are classic Tim Heywood, the British maestro taking full advantage of the 83-metre hull form to disguise a large-volume yacht of 2,800 Gross Tons in a very streamlined profile.
One of the instant attractions of the AMELS 272 is the dedicated owner’s deck, 43 metres long with 300 square metres of luxury space, but this really is a yacht that everyone can enjoy. The interior consists of five accommodations decks and a large sun deck, 26 metres long.
The large volume means that the seven generously proportioned guest cabins can all be located on the main deck, where they might otherwise be situated on lower deck. Guests will really appreciate the large windows in their cabins, and being situated just a short walk aft on main deck to the swimming pool, 5.5 by 3.5 metres.
The side-opening balcony and fold-down transom door combine to create a wonderful connection between interior and exterior. The large Beach Club, 87 square metres of it, will be one of the most visited and enjoyed parts of the new mega yacht AMELS 272. Main deck forward, the yacht has been engineered to take a landing helipad with a maximum take-off weight of 3,000kg.
Like all AMELS yachts, the highest levels of on board service are guaranteed by the high crew to guest ratio. There is accommodation for owners plus 18 guests, served by a captain and 24 crew. Crew accommodation is excellent, with 250 square metres of living quarters on the lower deck, all compliant with the latest ILO regulations.
Designing the AMELS 272 superyacht, Tim Heywood was in his element. The impressive dimensions have given the LIMITED EDITIONS designer the opportunity to draw a beautifully elongated foredeck. The length has also made it possible to disguise five accommodation decks and a large sun deck within a very sleek profile.
“Gaining the extra length allowed me to explore some very exciting possibilities,” says Heywood. “An overall length of 83 metres in some ways made my job simpler as I’ve been able to create the streamlined, feminine look that I seek with all my designs, but without any compromise to the living spaces.”
Looking down from above, it is possible to imagine that the AMELS 272 superyacht really does have a total of 900 square metres of outside deck space. Tier upon tier of elegantly sculpted aft decks not only make this yacht an aesthetic wonder, but a sun worshipper’s paradise too. You can enjoy the sun, the sea and the surrounding view from water level at the Beach Club, or from your lofty perch atop the Sun Deck. Or somewhere in between the two!
How would you like to arrive? Landing your helicopter on the foredeck Touch & Go helipad, with a maximum take-off weight of 3,000 kg? Via one of the two large 11-metre tenders? Or simply by foot, perhaps, via the aft passerelle, where the grand aft deck awaits you. With its vast lounging area and the inviting waters of the swimming pool, you know you have arrived in a place that is designed for pleasure. The entire AMELS 272 yacht is beautifully accessible, thanks to a central spiral stairway and round glass elevator that travels from lower deck to sun deck.
One of the wonderful things about luxury yachting is being able to enjoy the sea on your terms. On your time, at your leisure, doing the things you like best. This is why Amels spent so much time, care and attention on designing the aft sections of the luxury yacht AMELS 272.
The side-opening balcony and fold-down transom door offer wonderful access to the open air, and the 87 square metre Beach Club is perfect for, well, just about anything that you can imagine. With a side terrace door and an aft door that folds down flush into the large swimming platform, these features really open up the yacht to the great outdoors, creating the perfect connection with the water.
Once you’ve enjoyed your time in, on, or by the sea and you want to warm up or cool down – then you have the choice of sauna, a steam room, or one deck higher, a gorgeous swimming pool. Next to the Beach Club is the watersports store, with ample space for all manner of SCUBA diving gear and watertoys including room for four Waverunners. Should you wish to venture farther from the mothership, there is garage space for two large tenders of 11 metres.
Some days you want to get close to the sea and dive in. That’s what the Beach Club is for. Other times you might want to rise above it all, and that’s when you’ll want to escape to the Sun Deck. Equipped with an eight-person spa pool and with 200 square metres of deck space, by day this is the perfect spot for sunbathing and by night, just the spot to enjoy twilight cocktails in the cooling breeze after a hot day.
The flexibility of the Limited Editions concept makes it possible to customise the motor yacht AMELS 272 in a number of key areas, for example an alternative layout for situating the pool on the sun deck. Instead of the pool on main deck aft, you might prefer a large swimming pool of 6m x 2.5m on the sun deck, with an eight-person spa pool situated on sun deck aft and a bar close by. Moving the pool up top also means creating a larger open space on main deck aft.
Senior designer at AMELS, Jaap van der Velde, says the extensive research and development that has gone into the AMELS 272 project is thanks to some excellent connections and relationships in the marine industry.
“We are very fortunate that AMELS is part of the DAMEN Group, the largest shipbuilding group in Holland. This gives us access to state-of-the-art facilities and technology. We are also engaged in ongoing marine r&d projects through close partnerships with universities including the Technical University in Delft, MARIN and TNO. We have an incredible synergy with these excellent academic organisations and also with our co-makers and subcontractors. Working together with Azure Naval Architects and DAMEN research gives us great confidence in designing a large and complex yacht such as the AMELS 272.”
