As part of its on-going development of the highest quality training facilities, Pendennis has appointed Helios Maritime Aviation to carry out Bridge Resource Management (BRM) courses for superyacht crews.
Working closely with Pendennis, Helios has created the first BRM course designed specifically for superyacht crews. The two day courses are designed to take the entire superyacht crew through all aspects of safety, teamwork and joint and individual effectiveness. The courses include a variety of practical and theoretical activities, and use pertinent and recent case studies to pragmatically demonstrate and enhance the safe operation of a superyacht.
Helios Managing Director Robert Hubble says that statistics show that at least 75% of all maritime accidents are due to human factors, and that unclaimed accidents cost the yacht owner ten times the annual insurance premium. “Our Bridge Resource Management training is designed to reduce the number and scale of these accidents. It also helps reduce crew turnover on superyachts, as better team training results in enhanced behavioural activities amongst crew.”
With the benefits of BRM training already in widespread use in the commercial shipping sector, this new course is designed specifically to suit the key requirements of the international superyacht crew marketplace.
Mike Carr Joint Managing Director of Pendennis added “We have multiple yachts visiting our Yard at any one time for work and maintenance and as part of our extended offering to the superyacht market we offer complete packages for crew training as well as further crew support. The BRM course is bespoke in its nature and crews can benefit from this tailored approach.”
