The largest yacht ever built by the renowned shipyard Heesen Yachts , the 70M GALACTICA SUPER NOVA has been delivered to her owner following extensive sea trials in the North Sea. The all-aluminium Fast Displacement superyacht GALACTICA SUPER NOVA was sold in 2013 and created in collaboration between Heesen’s in-house specialists and the well-known Van Oossanen Naval Architects, who draw up her innovative hull form.
A rigorous and in-depth pre-design phase developed over more than 35 years of yacht construction expertise is a result of a very efficient building process that has seen the yacht built and delivered in just 41 months.
The sea trials spread over four days at the end of April and start of May on the North Sea, beginning with the moderate weather conditions with waves of 1,5m that got better over time and resulted in calmer conditions with waves of 0,5 metres and beautiful, clear skies.
Thanks to her high-performance Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF), together with a state-of-the-art propulsion system, GALACTICA SUPER NOVA went over her contractual maximum speed by 0,3 knots, reaching a top speed of 30,3 knots. In addition, she has demonstrated that she is a very quiet and highly manoeuvrable vessel in all sea conditions.
The luxury superyacht is fitted with two MTU wing engines with fixed pitch propellers and a third central engine with Rolls-Royce booster water jet. This is the first time that this type of configuration has been chosen for a superyacht, providing an impressive acceleration from 0 to 30 knots in just 75 seconds. As a result, GALACTICA SUPER NOVA is not only amongst the top 200 largest yachts in the world but also one of the fastest!
Boasting not only exceptional speed, performance, and superb engineering, GALACTICA SUPER NOVA has also striking exterior design by the famed naval architect Espen Oeino, who developed the design based on the pre-established technical platform provided by Heesen. The designer created a profile that showcases Heesen’s true DNA, yet introduces new design elements that make this yacht one the of brightest stars in the Heesen galaxy to date.
The yacht will see her premiere at the Monaco Yacht Show this coming September, following a busy season in the Mediterranean. Visitors and professionals will have the opportunity to also admire her stunning interiors that Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design has created for her.
