The Austrian yacht design firm, motion code: blue, has recently developed a design study of a 115-metre, six-deck private submersible yacht MIGALOO concept. The studio has also completed several projects in both production yachts as well as super yachts, being presently in build, and has worked on yachts in Asia, Europe and the USA.
Motion code: blue services include yacht exterior design, interior design as well as on-site supervision and building supervision.
After intense research and based on excellent knowledge of the current yacht market, the studio came up with an extraordinary design concept to satisfy the ever raising demands for individualization, self presentation and separation from the mass.
An increasing number of clients have exactly such special demands on the design as main points in their briefing for their designers, so the studio’s intention was to offer a stunning design concept especially for people, who are willing to expand the borders of imagination.
Managing directors Christopher Gloning’s and Christian Gumpold’s idea was to transform the well known and tested shape of current submarine designs into a private yacht which offers state-of-the-art luxury experience of same sized super yachts while having the huge benefit to submerge the whole vessel to travel and/or stay secretly and in total privacy underneath the waterline without any external disorders.
The hull of the 115 meters long and 11 meters wide mega yacht MIGALOO is identical to current submarines, only the tower is custom designed, which means it is longer and wider to host a light flooded main saloon followed by a wide staircase including a centered round elevator shaft.
When looking back to the enormous space of the aft deck, lounge areas, sun beds, a bar, an 8 by 3 meter-pool as well as a heli pad offer a wide range of activities and possibilities. When MIGALOO yacht is submerged, all furniture is stored in large storages underneath the granite decking and the pools’ bottom raises up to the main decks’ level.
The foredeck is fully dedicated to the owners’ privacy, hosting a full-beam private lounge. Lounges, a private bar and a private access to the 2-level-owners’ suite directly underneath complete this all new experience on the foredeck. The telescopically extendible roof provides shade and follows perfectly the contour lines of the hull when closed.
A spacious sun lounge on top of the tower completes the common amenities onboard a super yacht. The lounges are accessible via 2 wide stairways from the main deck, or, even more comfortable, from all interior deck levels via the lift. The telescopically extendible roof provides shade and will also be closed when the owner prefer to dive with the MIGALOO yacht.
For the crew, the design studio has planned an outdoor helm station on the forward top of the tower when superyacht MIGALOO travels above the water line, otherwise the spacious bridge and all necessary technical rooms hosting the equipment to control the submarine are right underneath the tower in the hull. Due to the hull’s design and dimensions inspired by existing submarines, necessary technical components can be easily positioned where they need to be without compromising the extra ordinary space for the owner and his guests, which are accommodated in 8 VIP-suites on sub-deck 2 and 3, while the owner has his private-full-beam-quarters over 2 decks on sub-deck 1 and sub-deck 2.
A cinema room, a library, a gym and a gaming room are additional features which ensure total comfort when living or travelling longer distances submerged.
4 wide side hatches (2 on each side) can be transformed into enormous beach terraces. A spacious dining area next to the saloon on sub-deck 1 and the adjoining beach club with luxurious access to the water are possible. Lounges and a Spa Pool enhance this area into an extra ordinary outdoor experience at the waterline. A comfortable ladder connects the beach club with the main deck above for easy access to the water on these 2 decks. Removable sun sails on each deck guarantee pleasant sun protection.
All tenders and toys can be stored in the beach club or on the deck below, so the transport of a wide range of additional vehicles is possible.
Sub-deck 4 is entirely reserved for the crew quarters including crew mess, laundry, crew gym…, while the main galley is positioned on sub deck 2 underneath the dining room. A private staircase nearby enhances the service and the ergonomics on board without compromising the guests.
The hull and tower are equipped with large windows of special pressure-proof glass to offer a breathtaking view especially when luxury yacht MIGALOO is submerged near the surface to explore the beauty and diversity of marine life. All windows are surrounded with underwater lights to provide stunning views when the yacht is getting deeper.
Communication and especially navigation is provided by common and well tested technologies and the hull is designed to reach a maximum depth of 240 meters, so it’s very likely to travel nearby a school of whales heading into the deep while having a cup of tea and a good chat in the main saloon.
Project MIGALOO yacht is named after the world’s only albino humpback whale that travels up and down the east coast of Australia. First sighted in 1991, and believed to be three to five years old at that time, the whale was named “migaloo” as an indigenous Australian word for “white fella”.
The communalities between this special creature and the design of the studio’s private submersible yacht MIGALOO concept are simple: both are unique in their color scheme, there is no other white submarine of this type worldwide and both are born to travel underneath the waterline to explore the world’s oceans.
The fantastic idea to create a private submersible yacht MIGALOO with state-of-the-art-technologies and using well known shapes from the marine industry imparts this concept an appealing charm, the design team of motion code: blue is proud to have taken this step to enrich the yacht scene with this innovative concept idea.
