Yesterday, June 12, 2013, saw the specialist UK boatyard, Endeavour Quay, welcome sailing yacht YALI as she returned to her original birthplace. YALI yacht is a 77-foot (23,5m) ketch, originally christened Kathleen. She was constructed at the Camper & Nicholsons’ yard in 1925, and yesterday made use of the modern day facilities now in place, namely the 180 tonne boat lift.
It was all hands on deck as the Endeavour Quay team including Operations Director Mark Bowden and Boatyard Manager Tim Newell aided the 5.4m wide luxury yacht YALI safely into the hoist before she was lifted for a keel inspection.
Tim Newell, Boatyard Manager, commented, “We are very excited to be able to offer our services to YALI, her owners and crew today. We are always pleased to welcome all of the different vessels but it is not often we get to assist one that was built here and so forms part of the history of this yard. The facilities and professional team we have at Endeavour Quay mean we can lift yachts up to 180 tonnes and 40m in length, and the deep water means the 3.5m draft on YALI isn’t a problem.”
YALI yacht’s owner was onboard yesterday and commented “I am very happy with the personal service and professional attention that we have received here and have really enjoyed visiting this historic yard.”
YALI yacht is currently sailing UK waters following substantial works at Southampton Yacht Services before returning to the Mediterranean.
