Maxwell Marine International, the New Zealand-based Megayacht anchoring equipment specialist as well as manufacturer, is proud to announce that they have recently delivered their new SY38 windlasses and associated ancillary anchoring equipment to Pryde Yachts (previously Raffles Yacht) for installation on their 90-metre mega yacht “Illusion”, presently in build in Yantai, Northern China.
The comprehensive anchoring package includes two enormous SY38 stainless steel AC electrically powered windlasses controlled by purpose built VFD (Variable Frequency Drive) units operable by Maxwell hand held AA730 remote roving control units with built in chain counters, linked to the helm station Maxwell AA601 electronic windlass monitoring system.A unique, bevel gearbox band brake control system, designed by Maxwell’s engineers, is ergonomically easier to use than conventional band brake control systems and allows the band brake control wheel and shaft to be easily fitted and removed, as required. Stainless steel covered footswitches complete the windlass control package.
Although capable of handling up to 38 mm stud link chain, in this case the 36mm stud link chain being used on Illusion is deployed and retrieved by the SY38 windlasses via massive, highly polished stainless steel chain pipes with integrated rollers. Finally, in order to ensure that the boat is held securely while at anchor and that the anchors remain securely in place while the vessel is underway, two mirror finished stainless steel Chain Stopper/Tensioners have been designed, built and supplied by Maxwell, completing what will become a truly impressive foredeck anchoring layout.
The sheer size of the 90m superyacht Illusion mandates the use of substantial stern handling capstans. Maxwell VC32 stainless steel, hydraulically driven, vertical capstan winches, with the capability of dual direction operation controlled by stainless steel covered footswitches, will be installed port and starboard. These powerful and easy to use capstans will ensure that the daunting task of mooring the vessel in the confines of a marina will be made simpler by giving the operator full control of mooring lines.
“Pryde Yachts chose Maxwell anchoring products because of the company’s global reputation for quality and reliability, coupled with the willingness of the staff at Maxwell to work with us in designing and manufacturing an anchoring solution particularly suited to our unique 90 metre ‘Illusion’ project”.
Itay Simhony, Director Pryde Yachts. Andy Stephens, CEO of Vetus-Maxwell APAC and head of the Maxwell Global Superyacht Division sent an SY38 display to the recent Festival de la Plaisance de Cannes Show in order to give the International Superyacht Industry a sneak preview of the SY38 leading up to the premier global release of this massive windlass at the prestigious Monaco Yacht Show from September 25th to 28th on Stand QS50 – Darse Sud.
In addition, if customers did not get a chance to see the SY38 at the Cannes Boat Show and if they miss the opportunity to see it at the Monaco Yacht Show, the good news is that it will also be taking pride of place at METS this year (November 19th to 21st).
