Last month saw the Superyacht UK (SYUK), the British Marine Federation association, representing the superyacht industry in England, celebrate its 10th anniversary at the Monaco Yacht Show, with a feeling of increased economic confidence.
The British superyacht industry was represented by almost 60 members at the 23rd show, both in the marina and on land, showcasing the very best of British excellence. Joining Superyacht UK in a dedicated SYUK pavilion was a wide representation from the supply chain such as Brunton Propellers, Halyard and Solent Refit. Pendennis, Oyster, Sunseeker, Princess and Green Marine, some of the UK’s top boatyards, were also in attendance.
The international show began with increased confidence in the UK superyacht sector as SYUK published results from its seventh annual survey of members. The findings reveal positive signs of growth for the sector, with a rise in revenue of 3.9% to £460 million – an increase on the -2.2% growth recorded in 2011/12.
Continuing the best of British theme throughout the anniversary celebrations, the RAF Red Arrows took to the skies over Monaco with an aerial display. Over 300 guests were invited out to the breakwater for the SYUK reception offering the ideal vantage point to view the aerial display.
Tom Chant, International Development Manager at British Marine Federation and Superyacht UK, said: “The profile of the UK’s superyacht industry was certainly raised at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show. We went in to the show in a bullish mood with our annual statistics displaying encouraging signs of renewed activity and this was borne out throughout the event, with members reporting increased interest and sales of their products and services. And with the Red Arrows flypast, Superyacht UK certainly captured the attention of owners, captains and key players of the global superyacht industry, positioning our members perfectly for future business.”
Eifrion Evans from Lumishore, who exhibited in the SYUK pavilion, added: “Lumishore has had a wonderful first Monaco Yacht Show. Aspirations and all our expectations were met and surpassed.”
SYUK celebrations and arrival of the Red Arrows were made possible through continued support of members Pendennis, Burgess, Superyacht World, Yachting World and Superyacht Business (Platinum partners); Sunseeker, Princess, Viking Recruitement (Gold partners); Design Unlimited, Saltwater Communication, Halyard, Yacht Carbon Offset, Owen Marine Marketing, Cockwells, JPMA, Atlas B2B and Ince & Co.
