Pendennis is delighted to announce the appointment of Richard Hudson as new General Manager at their Palma yacht refit facility. Having worked for Pendennis Palma for the past year, Richard has already created strong connections with the Pendennis fleet and will bring both engineering as well as technical expertise to reinforce the success of the operation.

“For over 16 years I have worked in the marine industry as yacht crew, an Owner’s representative and I have delivered projects as a contractor, therefore I’m able to empathise with our clients and understand their priorities. Perhaps most importantly I am proud to represent Pendennis’ passion, professionalism and skills in Palma.”
Like many Pendennis employees Richard has a passion for sailing having been an avid sailor since childhood. His experience includes skippering yachts in the Fastnet Race, RORC, racing solo in Mini 6.5 and Figaro class as well as racing aboard Open 60s and Orma 60s.
This early enthusiasm for the sea has led to a diverse career in the marine industry. Richard served as a ship’s engineering officer in the offshore oil and gas industry aboard support and survey vessels, also working on cable laying vessels and as ROV dive support. Following consultancy roles with the Department for Transport and the Maritime Coastguard Agency, Richard spent two years as an engineer on board superyachts; this led to Richard establishing a company in 2009 in Mallorca focusing on Owner advocacy, engineering and project management. Whilst running this business he assisted with Pendennis’ warranty work on luxury yacht Tenaz following which he joined the Pendennis Palma team, progressing to a central role managing motor yacht Fair Lady, charter yacht Margaret Ann and superyacht Audacia during this past refit season.
Richard’s enthusiasm and interest in the technical aspects of the superyacht industry are constant, with his spare time currently focussed on completing the requirements to become a Chartered Engineer. His substantial technical and engineering knowledge balanced with his experience of working aboard superyachts has proved invaluable for Pendennis Palma over the past year, and it is these skills and dynamism that will ensure the effective management of Pendennis Palma during the busy refit seasons ahead.
The Pendennis Palma facility remains a popular choice for yachts in the Mediterranean. This winter the facility will be welcoming back clients from the last two seasons, as well as delivering over 5000 hours of refit work to new clients. With 11 superyacht refit projects already booked, slots are rapidly running out for the 2013/14 season and enquiries are already strong for the 2014/15 season.
Over the past two years Pendennis Palma has evolved to offer a strong core team capable of handling the temporary importation of vessels (TPA), yacht and freight import and export, crew accommodation and vehicle hire and berthing – making the transition to shore side as effortless as possible. Backing from Pendennis’ Falmouth facility provides global warranty support, on-going service agreements and comprehensive spares supply, supported by the extensive expertise of the Pendennis team.
