Built by Palumbo Group to a design by Hydro Tec, the highly innovative 40m motor yacht Columbus 40s Hybrid has received the ShowBoats Design Award 2014 in three different categories: Interior Design, Enviromental Protection and Holistic Design. In addition, superyacht 40S Hybrid will be awarded by UIM (Union Internationale Motonautique) with their UIM Environmental Award 2013, which will be handed over on Saturday, March 1, 2014.
It was a real success for Palumbo Group that is very proud of these awards proving that the hard work and passion are the key ingredients for a successful project.
Created to celebrate the creativity and talent of the best naval designers, the ShowBoats Design Awards are one the most prestigious awards in the industry. This latest edition saw over thirty motoryachts competing at the final in several categories, for five of which 40S Hybrid yacht was nominated.
Yacht Owners, designers and representatives of the world’s most important shipyards gathered together for the awards ceremony held on February 24th at the Swarovski Crystal Worlds in Wattens (Austria).
The Environmental Protection Award was achieved by luxury yacht Columbus 40S Hybrid for the innovative solutions adopted on board, such as the hybrid propulsion system. Specifically requested by the Owner and designed to ensure a lower environmental impact, the system gives the possibility to add two electric engines to the main ones, thus ensuring a significant cut both in the fuel consumption and in the maintenance costs, not to mention the additional considerable reductions in SOx and NOx emissions. Due to the value of the Hybrid system RINA classed, the yacht, with the additional class notation “Hybrid Propulsion” along with “Green Star Plus Platinum”, is representative of innovation, respect for the environment and energy efficiency.
The Holistic Design Award recognizes the perfect harmony between the exterior and interior design. Presented in a worldwide première in September 2013 at the Monaco Yacht Show, Columbus 40S Hybrid superyacht is indeed the result of the collaboration among Palumbo Group, Hydro Tec Studio and Hot Lab Studio.
The whole project has been developed around one main goal, build a fast and sporty yacht in the meanwhile able to grant the same level of elegance and comfort of a megayacht, with large internal volumes but without compromising the external lines that remains elegant and slender.
For the interior design, 40 S Hybrid yacht won the Interior Design Award. In line with the green approach to yacht building pioneered by Columbus Yachts, Palumbo Group together with Hot Lab yacht & design have created elegant and cool interiors using environmentally sustainable materials in order to create comfortable interiors using a combination of warm materials and soft colors which avoid strong contrasts and ensure the interiors flow.
Promoted by the Union Internationale Motonautique, the UIM Environmental Awards focuses instead on the excellence in innovation, development and application of environmentally friendly technologies; this year the award goes to superyacht Columbus 40S Hybrid thanks to, once again, Hydro Tec and Palumbo Shipyard commitment in researching and promoting alternative and eco-friendly solutions.
By combining an innovative, fuel efficient engine with luxurious, light living spaces and sporty looks, Italian yard Palumbo created its new 40m to pull the hybrid engine into the super yacht mainstream. The Hybrid concept inspired the Group to design an entire new Sport Hybrid line with yachts ranging from 25m until 65m.
