Pioneering the use of acclaimed photovoltaic glass within the structure of superyachts is Barcelona-based company Nautiglass S.L., which has worked on such projects as luxury charter yacht Talitha G.
Photovoltaic glass for luxury yachts by Nautiglass
Nautiglass S.L. specialises in the manufacture and installation of photovoltaic glass, also known as PV glass, where solar cells are embedded between two glass panes to generate clean, renewable energy; reducing a yacht’s carbon footprint.
Pedro Maiquez Lopez, managing director of Nautiglass said, “Using photovoltaic glass within the superyacht structure helps to capture solar energy and releases a completely clean renewable energy. We have installed this glass on cruise ships and both new build and refitted superyachts – it all decreases the level of CO2 released into the environment.”
Unlike wind power, the solar cells generate power even when the yacht is stationary at anchor, recharging service batteries, which in turn powers basic auxiliary services such as refrigeration, water pumps and emergency lighting.
