Just three days after the first official UK viewing of Raymarine’s new T Series Thermal Night Vision Cameras, world-leading yacht manufacturer Sunseeker International placed an order for the top-of-the-range T450 to be fitted onto a Sunseeker 88 Yacht currently in build.
Designed to help facilitate safe navigation in total darkness, the new T Series uses thermal imaging technology, developed by Raymarine’s parent company FLIR, which is used extensively in commercial and military applications. The launch of the new T Series at Southampton demonstrated the first integration of this technology with Raymarine’s E and G Series multi-function displays.
Andy Davies, UK Sales Manager at Raymarine said the Sunseeker 88 Yacht would be fitted out with the T450 thermal night vision camera positioned on the coach roof and linked into four E Series Widescreen displays. This layout enables full use of the E Series touch screen controls at both helm positions on board, enabling users to easily switch or combine views from chartplotter, radar and thermal imaging.
Chris Warde, from Sunseeker’s Yacht Division, said, “We are delighted that Raymarine are now able to offer thermal imaging cameras as a fully integrated part of their product line-up, something that our clients who look to use the same brand across the whole dash will see as a real benefit.”
Raymarine’s T Series night vision cameras were one of the highlights at the Southampton Boat Show. The new technology was shown in the most impressive way – on an eye-catching powered simulator of a Sunseeker Predator 84 console. Visitors could see how the T450, Raymarine’s top-of-the-range thermal imaging camera, works by sensing heat.
This is emitted by all objects – even icebergs – and enables a clear image of hazards and obstructions, such as buoys, rocks, buildings and landscape features.
The clarity of vision, even in pitch darkness, shows details such as the number of people on an approaching vessel, or more importantly, enables fast location of a person or object in the water.
By integrating the T Series into Raymarine’s multi function displays, users can directly control the night vision cameras using the HybridTouch™ interface for 360º pan, 90º tilt and to zoom the camera. This not only makes T Series very easy to operate, but also enables users to see thermal imaging alongside their chartplotter, fishfinder and radar navigation displays. Designed to withstand the harsh marine environment, the T Series cameras are compact, with rigged marine-grade enclosures
