Monday, December 8, 2014, was marked by the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta Sponsor party, which turned out to be a successful and enjoyable event. More than 20 sponsors received acknowledgement and praise for playing a very important role in the successful continuation of the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta this year and upcoming year. The organizers also took a moment to thank all the additional supporters as well as volunteers, to emphasize that without them and the sponsors, this event would not have grown to the size it has become today.
The St. Maarten Heineken Regatta hosts its sponsor party every year to show appreciation for her sponsors, supporting companies, persons and volunteers that make the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta event possible every year. Michele Korteweg, St. Maarten Heineken Regatta Director, and Jeffrey Sochrin of Island 92 and Treasury Board Member, kicked off proceedings with a presentation to the sponsors to say thank you for their support and enthusiasm. Korteweg and Sochrin then went on to thank the many local associations that also support the event and help the organization to run the event safely and successfully both on land and on the water. Special thanks went to the volunteers. It takes about 150 volunteers to run the Regatta, many of them are members and supporters of the Sint Maarten Yacht Club.
The approximately 100 attendants at the Cruise Terminal at the Port of St. Maarten, where the sponsor party was held, were thrilled and attentive about the outspoken appreciation and the new information being presented regarding the St. Maarten Heineken Regatta 2015. The new developments will highlight the 35th anniversary of the event. A new house style and logo, new website, more racing and more convenient logistics were the points of discussion. The Regatta Organizers emphasized that the entire island needs to become involved in the event by showing off what the island has to offer, to ensure that we generate return visitors in low season.
Highlight of the evening was the announcement of the two main acts for the weekend; Tessanne Chin on the Saturday and ‘The Kool and the Gang’ on Sunday night. The roster for this anniversary edition is filling up quickly and the organizing committee was quick to announce that local talent will be performing as well and that more artists will be announced soon. A special thank you goes out to the Port of St. Maarten for making the location and logistics available. A partnership was founded in the previous year and will continue to grow as both parties focus on destination marketing and by joining forces more goals will be achieved.
