Benetti Sail Division has developed the Benetti Sail Division 105 Rounded Stern motor yacht (BSD 105 RS) which is currently in build in Viareggio and expected to be delivered in 2011. The project was developed with the intent to give new life to forms and concepts that have made the history of the Benetti Sail Division’s production, such as the Canoe-Stern Navettas by reinterpreting them in a modern way.
The BSD 105 RS motor yacht is a modern interpretation of the classic Rounded Stern with the addition of a portion of tilted toerail giving rise to an edge band and to forms that confer that special touch of modernity and sportiveness that seemed lost in rounded-stern yachts.
The traditional sheer line of the BSD 105 RS’s hull has been turned into a game of curved steps, climbing towards the bow. Steps leading to the deck-house have been accentuated to become an elegant stairway for access to the sundeck.
The BSD 105 RS will feature a bright and spacious interior with a 7.2m beam and plenty of natural lights thanks to her large windows. She will accommodate up to 10-12 guests in 5 cabins including the on deck master suite. The 31m BSD 105 RS motor yacht will be powered by 2xMAN D 2842 LE 413 engines, with an expected maximum speed of 13,5 knots, a cruising speed of 12,9 knots. She will hav a range of 2,200 NM at cruisisng speed and a range of 4,600 at the more economiclal speed of 10 knots.
Benetti Sail Division Managing Director Simone Marconcini made the following comments regarding the BSD 105 RS “There is a market for medium-sized, steel-hulled, displacement yachts, within this group there are owners who like the traditional rounded stern. The problem is that as a design feature the rounded stern has remained tied to the past and stopped evolving back in the 1950s, and this is the reason why it has remained such a niche market. Our approach has been to retain the feature, but adapt it to the 21st century.”
