Southern Wind announced the delivery of their first sailing yacht in the SW miniseries, the 29.3m/80′ carbon yacht Sorceress. She has just completed seas trials and is now on the way to the Mediterranean. Farr Yacht Design developed the yacht’s naval architecture, while Nauta Design took care of both exterior and interior.
Sorceress is a bluewater cruiser with a displacement of 56,700 kg, which allows to achieve an impressive speed in light wind. “The goal was to achieve an entirely new level of design, incorporating features of the highest performance yachts such as wide transoms, twin rudders and ample sail area and stability, melded with the well-known characteristics of our previous Southern Wind designs like easy handling, excellent balance, comfortable ride and a solid feeling of seaworthiness,” says Jim Schmicker, vice president of Farr Yacht Design.
The interior layout includes a large salon above engine room, which is accessible from the control room. Accommodation is offered in 4 cabins: owner’s cabin with an ensuite and office space, and three guest cabins amidship.
Willy Persico, founder and CEO of Southern Wind Shipyard comments: “Her owner was looking for a yacht to use in both coastal and transoceanic races and for bluewater cruises. He wanted a very low displacement and all the comforts typical of a cruising yacht.”
Sailing yacht Sorceress will make her first appearance at the Monaco Yacht Show 2017.
Currently, Southern Wind is working on the second unit of the same yacht series, SW 96 hull #2 is scheduled for delivery in 2018. Find out more about Southern Wind Yachts here or view a selection of luxury sailing yachts available for charter. Contact CharterWorld for charter yacht bookings.
