A new family-centred 55m/180ft superyacht concept named BLUEBIRD has been released by Netherlands-based Diana Yacht Design. Created for long-range exploration in comfort, the BLUEBIRD contains a two-storey apartment and caters for families taking young children on extended voyages around the world. The layout is also flexible, making her an ideal choice as a charter yacht for groups with different needs.

The profile places the superstructure forward to create large aft deck areas and reinforce her appearance as an expedition yacht. The flared bow adds a touch of classic elegance and enhances performance and comfort at sea, reducing the rolling effect of waves in adverse conditions. Clients are able to customise the design, choosing their own colour scheme and altering the length from anywhere between 50 and 60 metres (164 and 197 feet).
Between the bridge deck and the main deck is a floor entirely dedicated to the owner, offering a gym and a full-beam Master suite with sweeping 180° forward views. A private staircase leads down to two double suites and the area can be locked off to create a family two-floor, three-suite apartment where the foredeck area can remain private while on board visitors and other guests use the main salon and aft decks for entertaining.

The main deck suites can be converted for accommodating more children for cruises with the extended family and a starboard cabin in the family area can be used to accommodate a nanny or schoolteacher. BLUEBIRD is designed to change as the children grow up and the main deck suites can be converted into double cabins with en-suite facilities.
The lower deck has four other spacious guest cabins and for charter purposes the main deck accommodation can be used as VIP areas, with each cabin offering an equal amount of room for guests.
The interior volume allows for stocking up for long-distance voyages and the aft walls of the lounges on the main deck and owner’s deck open up to the aft deck area for greater connection with the outdoor environment while retaining all the benefits of indoor living.
The tenders and larger motorised toys are stored on the foredeck to create a spacious beach club that opens up to form a family area where children can play on the water toys while the adults enjoy lounging in the sunshine with drinks from the bar.

Other amenities on board include a cinema in the main salon and a variety of indoor and alfresco dining options.
The crew are also considered and the cabins for 14 are amply sized with a large crew mess and dedicated working areas. The tank deck contains the laundry and refrigeration facilities and all decks are connected by a dumbwaiter.
