More information about one of the largest sailing yacht in the world, S/Y BLACK PEARL, has been released. This time the announcement had spread across Social Media quite rapidly, as the yacht has finally been delivered to her owner, almost after a year of sea trials. This revolutionary 106.7m/350ft superyacht features the largest DynaRig carbon masts that measure 70 metres. The innovative system onboard allows to place and furl sails by pressing a button, which allows to all 2,900 sqm of sails to be set in just 7 minutes.
BLACK PEARL was built and launched in 2016 by world-renowned Oceanco. Ken Freivokh Design and Nuvolari Lenard created the exterior lines and interior design of this mega yacht. Dykstra Naval Architects provided the hull lines and naval architecture of the yacht. The interior, according to the design statement issued by Nuvolari Lenard, boasts Louis XVI styling with ArtDeco elements, which was also the work of Valentina Zannier and Gerard Villate. Other outstanding characteristics, such as hybrid propulsion system and waste heat recovery, were created by BMT Nigel Gee in collaboration with Oceanco.
There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the title of the largest sailing yacht in the world. In fact, S/Y A launched in 2015 by Nobiskrug measures 143m/469ft. However, she is the world’s largest sail-assisted motor yacht with the tallest carbon composite masts of more than 90m/295ft in length.
