The 33m/108ft Cantiere delle Marche superyacht MIMI LA SARDINE has been awarded Best Interior Design, Motor Yachts below 299 GT at the Boat International Design and Innovation Awards 2019, ahead of her debut on the Mediterranean luxury yacht charter market.

The awards took place in Cortina, Italy on January 27th and celebrated the creativity and achievements of individuals and studios from across the globe. Milan-based Nauta Design was among those receiving an accolade due to their creative yet understated contemporary interiors, which were influenced by input from the Owner’s wife to help shape some of the most eye-catching aspects.
Images of the main salon show bleached oak floorboards designed to look like driftwood – an appearance imitated on the ceiling where gaps in the slats are used for lighting. Floor-level lighting is placed beneath the cabinetry spanning the walls on both the port and starboard sides, and sisal rugs and a clean colour scheme in white and gold are complemented by the dark wooden coffee table to prevent a ‘washed-out’ effect.

The judges said of M/Y MIMI LA SARDINE
“[We] were impressed by a well-presented design development package from renderings to finished photos that showed how the client was involved in the creation of a very personal family boat working from a semi-production platform. Documents highlighted the yacht’s mission as a vessel on which the family could re-connect. The design team also took into account the family’s request for long-term autonomy in all-important elements such as storage and extra refrigeration, not easy to accomplish in a 33 metre.”
“Design elements to support the prime directives of relaxation, a contemporary beach house vibe and use of natural materials are consistent throughout the interior spaces. The treatment of oak to mimic the look of driftwood is particularly effective and pleasing. A sense of lightness was achieved through large windows and a lack of visual weight came courtesy of spare, contemporary furnishings and sisal area rugs, while the saloon fun factor was enhanced through the use of random slits in the planked wood overheads to cleverly mimic light filtering through trees as the ambient light source.”

Elements from the main salon can also be found in the sky lounge, which has white wall panelling and flooring for a more laid-back, beach-club effect. A wet bar with a comprehensive selection of spirits is placed forward and a drinks table/dining area and lounge flow down the port side of the room, while the unobtrusive cabinetry is placed to starboard.
The alluring wooden panelling continues through to the accommodation and en-suite bathrooms, which consist of a beautifully-appointed Master suite with bathtub, 2 VIP staterooms and 2 double cabins convertible to twins and each containing a Pullman berth.
The exteriors will be just as much of a delight to guests, who have alfresco lounges and dining areas on the main deck aft, upper deck aft and sundeck to select from, the latter also fitted with a Jacuzzi along the stern.
