Dutch shipyard Feadship has celebrated its 170th anniversary with the opening of its all-new luxury yacht building facilities in Amsterdam port on Monday the 18th of May.
The new facilities are capable of refitting superyachts up to 160m/524ft in length and are the result of five years of meticulous planning, design and construction to create the second Royal Van Lent shipyard and the Netherlands’s fourth Feadship facility.
The opening ceremony was attended by Her Majesty Queen Máxima and around 2,500 members of the workforce. Queen Máxima was introduced to Dick Van Lent, the fourth generation of his family to run Feadship until his retirement in 2016. She then viewed 19 luxury yachts from the Feadship Heritage Fleet that were lined up along the quay, then met young graduates from the Feadship Academy as well as several generations of family members who work at the Kaag Royal Van Lent yard.
At a massive 425,000m³/15,008,733ft³ the new shipyard is also one of the most eco-friendly in the world and will run in conjunction with the Royal Van Lent facilities in Kaag Island, which will continue to run at full capacity.
