Exciting news today of an updated on the progress of 46.8m (154’) sailing yacht NILAYA formally known as Project 405 from Royal Huisman and Reichel/Pugh – Nauta. She emerged from the shed in Vollenhove in preparation for her journey to Amsterdam to be fitted with her towering rig.
Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is a modelling process originally used in the design of spacecraft but now adapted to become the FeatherlightTM process used to select construction materials which shave 11% off the overall weight of the vessel. Careful weight analysis has been considered throughout the interior, the structured luff sail design, pioneered by Doyle Sails and even the deck hardware which is made of titanium.
NILAYA’s racy, low profile and straight bow, wide transom and twin rudders, echo the look of her owners’ previous highly successful maxi-racer of the same name. Designed by the same team, it is hoped that this NILAYA, who will be delivered to her owner in the coming months, is capable of podium finishes at superyacht regattas around the world.
