Performance sailing yacht GELLICEAUX is the first hull in the Southern Wind’s SW108 Smart Custom series with naval architecture from Farr Yacht Design and exterior and interior by Nauta. We are delighted to be able to share a first glimpse of her stunning features.
The co-founder of Nauta Design, Massimo Gino sheds light on the 35.41 (108’) yacht’s design, “The exterior lines have been tailored to become sportier and more dynamic with the Owner’s involvement. GELLICEAUX’s deckhouse is clad in teak with a huge central skylight and the teak side decks aft morph into ‘floating’ bench seats that also provide a handy platform for winches. It’s a feature we’re very proud of that has been ‘borrowed’ by other designers.”
The low-rise and agile profile is defined by a composite coaming of the deckhouse which has the look of a stylised lightening bolt.
“The owners were closely involved in the whole design process and were delighted when they saw our section render of the split-level saloon. We were on the same page in terms of taste, but we were given free rein to come up with styling proposals and that made the creative process all the more rewarding.”
Nauta created fixed furniture which appears freestanding by keeping the edges away from the builkheads making for a cosier feel more akin to residential interior designs. The sofa seating in the airy, split-level salon has designed to be big and comfortable and particular attention was paid to the lighting to create practical atmospheric solutions. Headboards are made of upholstered panels in ‘relief’ while the bathroom fittings, handrails and accessories are satin-finished black which looks clean and contemporary – and makes cleaning easier for the crew!
“The words ‘calming’ and ‘Mediterranean fresh’ cropped up a lot in our discussions and I think you can see that in the natural colour palette, fabric-lined walls, and contrasting light and dark veneers in Alpi wood composite. Everything is very easy on the eye and the overall ambience is classy but cool, understated but sophisticated, stylish but warm,” commented Massimo.
Having been delivered in October 2023, sailing yacht GELLICEAUX has already sailed nearly 12,000nm after a 7,500nm maiden voyage from Cape Town to Lanzarote. The owners are now planning a transatlantic journey to the Caribbean in time for the winter season.
