Italian shipyard Baglietto has unveiled its newest explorer yacht; the X50 design, by renowned collaborator Francesco Paszkowski, will be part of a wider range called XO. “Explore, Experience, Observe”, describes the long range capabilities and distinguishing features: an observation lounge, drone and extensive use of glass.
Paszkowski described the project as ‘completely disruptive’ with layouts inspired by the ETR 300 ‘Settebello’ train from the 1950s. The bridge is on the upper deck with an observation lounge above offering all-encompassing views through large flush-fitting windows. The lounge has been created with as somewhere ‘to retreat even on the coldest days’ and is comfortably furnished.
The innovative AV equipment on board including six independent screens can be used for entertainment, business purposes for the captain to share navigation charts. There is also a drone on the observation deck which can be used to explorer beyond the parameters of the yacht.
Paszkowski said: “The explorer boat already exists, but I wanted to create a product … with connections to the internet, the web, the drones – these are things … we tried to transpose this.”
Guests also have the option to sunbathe above the observation deck on a sunpad which moves at the touch of a button, to create a central skylight in the observation lounge.
The minimal flybridge is flush-fitted with glazed surfaces while a honeycomb-like solar panel on the roof of the flybridge can be used to create sustainable power. She also boasts an ice-class hull for transatlantic crossing and exploration with a sturdy, sharp bow which enhances performance and manoeuvrability in extreme conditions.
Power will come from a pair of CAT C32 engines, delivering a maximum speed of 16 knots.
We understand that the construction of the first hull of the X50 series is in negotiation with a potential owner. This is an exciting project and part of a new generation of explorer yachts which are becoming more popular as charter yachts as guests look to explorer further afield.
