K&M Yachtbuilders Open Day

On Saturday 16 April K&M Yachtbuilders, builder of aluminium custom-built sailing yachts, will once again be opening its doors to the public. From 10 am to 4 pm everyone will be welcome in Makkum to familiarise themselves with the shipyard and its work according to the ‘tried and tested formula’: various yachts under construction (about 7) inside, several vessels ready for sailing outside in the water (about 10), two speeches (midday and 2 pm) and nice weather. All of the K&M “lines” will be represented: Bestevaer, Stadtship, Axonite and Bestewind.

Crowd pullers

Eeuwe Kooi, CEO and proprietor of K&M: “The main crowd puller for the open day? Well, that’s a highly personal choice, but for me it’s the biggest and the smallest sailing yachts under construction.” The “Tulip” stands out for her dimensions and elegant design. A classically lined 88 ft sloop (26.6 x 6.1 m) designed by German Frers. K&M also has great expectations of the smallest yacht under construction, also a new model in the Bestevaer series: a Bestevaer 45ST. Highly recognisable as a Bestevaer, including comfortable doghouse, in a handy size.

Speeches

Kees and Koen will be arriving to give speeches this year. Koen van Esch competed in 2007 in Transat 6.50, a solo race of 4200 miles from France, via Madeira to Brazil. In his speech Koen will be telling you all about his experiences, the highs and the lows. Including spectacular images!
Kees Verruijt, owner of the Stadtship 56 “Merrimac”, entrepreneur and software engineer will be arriving to tell you about: “My search for the ideal navigation and operation solution”. The “Merrimac” will be present for demonstrations.

New offices

This year not the usual attractive entrance, but a building site! The entrance, offices and facade are undergoing a major refit. You will certainly be given an impression of the ultimate result during the open day. As well as a cup of coffee when you arrive via the alternative route.
