Judges’ Comments:
Five outstanding sailing yachts reached the finals in this class to provide the judges with yet another hard task in separating them. All five had aluminium hulls – but there the universal similarity stopped. Four are ketches, one a sloop; three are heavy-weight world-roaming cruising yachts, one is of medium displacement, and one of light displacement and high performance; three had carbon rigs and two aluminium; one with a deep draught centreboard and four with fixed keels. No wonder there was serious discussion among the jury. In the end, it was the all-rounder that came to the fore. Super Riela, a 56-Metre class built by Perini Navi with naval architecture by Ron Holland and Perini Navi, had a winning mix of quality construction, a high level of amenities both inside and out, and a stunning, highly detailed interior design by Rémi Tessier – and she narrowly took the Neptune. But the result was close, and in recognition of the world-class quality of her construction and of a design exactly tailored to the owner’s needs for world cruising, a Judges’ Special Commendation was awarded to Nazenin V, designed by Sparkman & Stephens and built by the RMK Shipyard in Tuzla Turkey, with an interior by Redman Whitely Dixon.
