The 2010 Shipyard Cup will be held from the 27th to the 29th of August 2010 in Maine. The founding sponsors The Hodgdon Group and Boothbay Region Boatyard have announced that “Big Boat Racing” is back in Maine.
The Shipyard Cup started in 2002 and ran for 7 consecutive years until 2009 when the event was cancelled due to the inability to attract sponsorship participation. This year the Shipyard Cup is back and will once again be open to sailing vessels 21 m (70 ft) and above from around the world with most entries averaging 100 feet and over. The event will begin mid-day Friday the 27th of August and include Saturday and Sunday racing. There will be a Maine “lobsterbake” as well as lots of other festivities with award ceremonies in the afternoon of Sunday the 29th of August.
In addition to attracting hundreds of spectators, the event has the promise of being the highlight of the season for both owners and crew. Few events celebrate the authentic majesty of yachting’s heritage and future like the Shipyard Cup.
