Friday, December 7, saw the Cruising World magazine in the US announce the splendid sailing yacht Oyster 625 by Oyster Marine as the winner of the 2013 Boat of The Year Award for Best Bluewater Cruiser at the 20th Annual Boat of the Year awards.
An independent panel of experts, who inspected and tested 24 nominated boats following the US Sailboat Show in Annapolis earlier this year, made their decisions based on extensive dockside inspections and sea trials of the all the yachts in contention.
The stunning Oyster 625 yacht certainly turned the heads of the judges who unanimously voted to honour the 625 with the special award of Best Bluewater Cruiser.
Judge Ed Sherman, technical author, lifelong sailor and director of the American Boat & Yacht Council’s education program said: “Everything about this boat is absolutely first-class. It was built by people who truly understand what ‘global cruising’ really means”.
Commenting on the award, Oyster CEO, David Tydeman said: “Commendations for the Oyster 625 continue and the Cruising World Boat of the Year Award gives this impressive yacht a trilogy of awards along with the European Yacht of the Year – ‘Best Luxury Cruiser’ and Asia Boating Awards – ‘Best Production Sailing Yacht’. The 625 has been a champion with our owners and admirers since her launch and we are moulding Hull No. 14 of this award-winning model at the beginning of the new year. It is an honour to receive this prestigious award and to start 2013 with the Boat of the Year accolade. We are delighted to be able to show the Oyster 625 at the London and Dusseldorf boat shows in January, which will add to the momentum of her success. Our thanks to world-class yacht designer, Rob Humphreys and to the teams at Oyster”.
Balancing her generous size, the award-winning luxury yacht Oyster 625 is set up for easy, short-handed sailing for those owners who prefer to sail without crew. With an interior option that allows for a forepeak layout for a full-time crew-member, giving the potential of five cabins on board, combined with her spacious, flush aft deck – the perfect spot for sun lounging or entertaining – the 625 is as well suited to occasional charter as she is for comfortable family sailing.
Boat of the Year Director and Cruising World senior editor Herb McCormick carried out the review of the Oyster 625 yacht earlier in the year and said: “This purposeful 62-footer is a remarkable, state-of-the-art example of contemporary yacht design and construction.
“All that said, where the 625 truly came to life was under sail”.
Luxury sailing yacht Oyster 625 will be on show at the London Boat Show and Düsseldorf Boat Show.
