Developed by the NZ studio Bakewell-White Yacht Design Ltd., the new 335 Sportfish superyacht design is destined for a Western Australian client for construction in composites. The main characteristics, fundamental to the 33,5m motor yacht 335 Sportfish concept’s performance, are light weight as well as strength, so foam/glass/carbon composites are to be used.
The client intends to fish and cruise the 335 Sportfish yacht in a variety of parts of the world, so the performance and handling at speed is balanced with an ability to cross oceans.
The aesthetics of the luxury motor yacht 335 Sportfish are intended to be modern yet pay homage to the well established and distinctive features that signal ‘Sportfish’. In automotive terms it is a Ferrari GTO, or an E Type Jaguar, in aircraft terms it is a Spitfire or P51 Mustang. The distinctive forms remain but embellished with modern finishes and materials to give a fresh twist.
Top speed is not a high priority for this owner as he is more interested in long distance passages, however the hull form of the 335 Sportfish yacht concept is very much in the vein of the deep vee Florida sportfish, and so the design can have additional power applied for those who want a 40kn+ boat.
A distinctive feature of the 335 Sportfish yacht is the hidden tender stowage in the foredeck allowing safe stowage for long trips and then the use of tenders at the destination without having to tow boats and without destroying the yacht’s sleek lines.
