This year’s Asia Superyacht Rendezvous is well underway and all captains, owners, sponsors as well as guests are getting to know one another and are talking about their journeys over the past year, what brought them to Asia and most importantly, to the Rendezvous in Phuket, Thailand.
The first day of sailing took place in the morning around Bang Thao Bay and was a great success. The rain stayed away and all sail boats raced on a course set by race officials in the morning, finishing in good spirits.
Last night the guests headed to Xana Beach club for the second evening of the Asia Superyacht Rendezvous. Xana provided delicious cuisine which was enough to keep all guests happy and hurrying back for more. It was then time to get competitive and creative. All participating yachts, along with host hotel and sponsor Angsana Laguna Phuket, entered their teams into the popular Feadship Challenge.
The Challenge is this: Teams need to construct a model sail boat from a kit that was provided to them during the evening, which include items such as sheets of paper, wood and drawing pins for sails and plastic foam for the boat itself. Once the teams have completed their masterpiece, they then need to pick a member with very strong lungs to blow their model sail boat along the metal gutters which have been filled with water.
Everyone cheered on their appointed member and did the best they could to get from one side to the other and back again, in order to win the race. It was a very close call between motor yacht Callisto, superyacht Helix and luxury yacht Samax, but the final race winner was Callisto, which was much deserved. Everyone was in good spirits and it was great to see the various shapes and sizes. The award for best design went to charter yacht Si Datu Bua.
Bas Nederpelt of Feadship, the event’s Principal Sponsor, said that the evening was a great success. Whilst teams were building their boats, he went from team to team, ensuring that all were following the rules provided by the organisers. Charter yacht Silolona presented Bas with a model of a traditional Indonesian whale hunting boat called Tena, from the Lamalera Villiage. These whale hunting boats are eco-friendly and a way for locals to sustain a living.
The Asia Superyacht Rendezvous gives everyone a chance to relax and spend time enjoying the company of others who share their love of the ocean and being on board the decks of a superb sail or motor boat. The Rendezvous has some magnificent boats this year. When walking through Xana Beach Club at sun set, the view of all the boats anchored at sunset is like no other. The degree of high caliber provided by Motor boats Samax, Helix and Callisto, all from the Feadship Shipyard, along with charter yacht Maverick, as well as sailing boats Twizzle yacht, superyacht Yanneke Too, charter yacht Shamoun, Asia, Si Datu Bua and Silolona have the ability to take one’s breath away.
Evert van Dischoek of Royal Huisman stated that he was enjoying the Rendezvous and was looking forward to another day of sailing. Royal Huisman have joined the Rendezvous this year as a Contributing Sponsor and organisers are pleased to have them on board.
Now its on to day 3, where organisers have arranged a Treasure Hunt for both adults and children and all will dress as Pirates and show who can best follow clues and find a hidden treasure. Ahoy!
