Ricardo Pilguj is a young aspiring yacht designer from Northern Germany. At 17 years of age, he is extremely passionate about yachts and the world surrounding this industry. His biggest project to date, and the one that he is most fond of, is the impressive yacht FUSION.
Ricardo’s interest in the yachting industry goes back quite a few years. He remembers being in Ibiza on holiday and finding himself stunned by the different yachts at the marina. From then on he started purchasing yachting magazines and begun to create his first sketches. In 2006 his mother organized him a surprise birthday visit to the Luerssen Shipyard, where Ricardo realized, his dream was truly to become a real yacht designer, such as Espen Oino or Tim Heywood. The first yacht ever that he stepped on was the impressive 60 metre Luxury Super Yacht Linda Lou.
In 2008 Ricardo spent some time at the Luerssen Shipyard, where he learned a lot about the complex procedures of yacht design, planning, construction, right through to the delivery. He found the different processes of yacht building very interesting and educational. He witnessed the production of such great yachts as the superyacht PELORUS and superyacht SKAT.
The latest project FUSION is the first ever yacht design of Ricardo Pilguj shown to public. He drew the first sketches at the start of the year, then he proceeded through to the improvement using computer software and now he is ready to show the renderings.
The magnificent Luxury SuperYacht FUSION is a 102 metres long vessel with a beam of 18.2 metres. The project takes its name from a ‘fusion’ of the shape of a plane and that of a superyacht. He believes his project Fusion took inspiration from the very important yacht design, the 115 metre Super Yacht ‘A’, which is also one of his favourites. He would not disagree, that there might be some similarities between the two yachts, however he would not compare the two.
The hull design of the superyacht Fusion is very sleek and slender to allow a top speed of 22 knots and a cruising speed of 16 knots. The fuel consumption is reduces by the aerodynamic superstructure and hull shape, especially that of the bow section. Her stability is provided by the axe-bow and two stabilizers on both sides. A ‘T’ shaped stabilizer can also be found under the bow. The yacht is designed to be long range, to allow her to explore most of the beautiful and remote places of the World.
FUSION Yacht is designed to accommodate ten guest and the Owners. The very impressive Owner’s Suite can be found on the main deck. The guest cabins are all situated on the lower deck. A special feature has been added to the Owner’s suite, one that has never been seen on a yacht before. There is an Owner’s Garage in front of the Owner’s Suite, featuring two huge doors, which can be opened at anchor, creating a large, open and private area for the Owner’s use. Owner’s Tenders and water toys can be stored here as well. However, the common use Tenders are situated in the aft tender garage on the lower deck. There are two 12 metre tenders and other water toys, such as water bikes. Upper deck features a helipad, that could be used for a helicopter, as well as a tilt rotor aircraft.
Aft of the Tender garage, the guest can find a huge beach club with and bar area right at the sea level. Three doors can be lowered, thus creating the space for guests to relax and enjoy the sunshine. Fusion’s high-tech bridge can also be used for a plane or a spaceship. The bridge also features an observation lounge reserved specifically for the owner and his guests to enjoy the view and watching the captain at work.
Social areas can be found on the main deck, the bridge deck and the upper deck of the MY FUSION. Her saloons are flooded with sunlight and offer magnificent views. The interior is projected to be minimalistic, with light colours and state-of-the-art materials, such as glass, silver, wood and black stone reflecting a contemporary finish.
The engineering part of this Ricardo Pilguj yacht design Fusion includes conventional propulsion, however pods could be used to reduced the fuel consumption even more. The anchor room is integrated in the hull, as you would find on modern cruise ships.
Ricardo says, that designing this Yacht Fusion was a new experience for him. Spending much more time and paying all the attention to the details. He, however enjoyed this project very much. To turn his dream of becoming a professional yacht designer into reality, he is planning on studying industrial design from 2011, when he finishes his current studies. He would also love to do more placements, while waiting to enter the University. Other than the placement at Lurssen, he also spent some time at Newcruise Projects and Yacht Design in Hamburg last Autumn.
