Update on the Audi MedCup Caja Mediterráneo Region of Murcia Trophy : Three races are planned for today for both the GP42 Series and the TP52 Series and around the dock this morning at the Audi MedCup Circuit village for the Caja Mediterráneo Region of Murcia Trophy, confidence is fairly high that this should be a reasonable target.
Predictions for the day suggest that the breeze should be from between 200 and 240 degrees moving right through the afternoon, generally between eight and 12 knots. But if there is some thermal help, the sea-breeze aiding the gradient breeze, then it might top 15 knots.
There seems to be no let up in the very hot, sunny weather which is prevailing across southern Europe just now and that can be quite oppressive, especially when the crews have to spend long hours waiting for the breeze.
The GP42 Series should get under way, whilst the TP52 Series should roll into Race 3 of the Caja Mediterráneo Region of Murcia Trophy with Britain’s TeamOrigin sailing yacht still leading by one point from Argentina’s Matador.
Among the Crew+ VIP guests who will sail along with the race crews today will be Juande Ramos (ESP), the former Seville, Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur football manager who has enjoyed sailing with the Audi MedCup fleet in the past.
Tonight at the Public Village, there is an Urban Mile run, and after that it is Cuban night.
“ We know we will have a gradient wind, but the big question is how much the thermal either couples and makes it build, or it doesn’t and screws it up. We are not sure. We are thinking there could be as little as 6-8 knots in the first race, and as much as 16-18 knots after that, and then maybe die off towards the end of the day. It is hard to call at this stage. And I think we could get three races in.” suggests Quantum Racing’s navigator Kevin Hall (USA).
