The Region of Sardinia Trophy is set to start tomorrow and Azzurra, flying the burgee of the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, and the Audi Azzurra Sailing Team welcome spectators and competitors.
The boats are lined up along the quays of the newly remodelled seafront in the centre of Cagliari for the Italian leg of the Audi MedCup Circuit while crews were out on the water practicing today before the official Practice Race, scheduled for tomorrow morning.
“We are really happy to be here in Sardinia,” commented tactician Francesco Bruni, “because it the region our Yacht Club is from and because last year in Cagliari we did very well and we intend to provide a repeat performance.”
The “Azzurra family” has news of two new arrivals as newborn baby girls Carola and Renata join the team alongside their respective dads Pedro Rossi, boat captain and mid bowman, and “Pato” of the shore team. The rest of the team, the YCCS and the entire MedCup community wish all the very best to Carola and Renata and the new parents. Pedro Rossi will therefore be absent during the Cagliari event and will be replaced as mid bowman by Juan Pablo Marcos, a young Argentinean sailor who combines an excellent athletic curriculum with his work as a naval architect in one of the world’s top yacht design studios.
Tomorrow’s forecast predicts sunshine and a south south-easterly thermal breeze of approximately 10 knots or more.
