At a time when Australian boat builders are finding it tough, particularly in the export market, Azzura Marine is bucking the trend at its yard in Queensland where the company has built a reputation constructing premium quality custom motor and sailing vessels. Using experience gained in building vessels such as the award winning Cambria II, we have recently diversified into the manufacture of high quality custom interior and exterior furniture to the marine industry.
David McQueen, Managing Director, stated “With 100% of the last 12 months’ production sold to the overseas market such as Trinity Yachts in the United States and Oceanco and Lurssen in Europe, it’s a testament to the quality of our craftsmanship, especially since the Australian Dollar has reached historical highs. We know builders could choose to source from significantly cheaper countries but the quality of the work and service are incomparable.”
Owner’s Confidence
The Redman Whitely Dixon designed European based 74m, Motor Yacht Ilona, has recently returned to Amels, her original builder, for a refit. After completing a successful refit in 2009 of a similar Australian based vessel for the same owner, Azzura Marine have won her owner’s confidence after being appointed owner’s representatives for the refit of MY Illona in The Netherlands.
David McQueen will be clocking up the frequent flyer miles to Europe every four weeks to personally oversee the refit where he will be assisted on the ground by his European based Project Manager, Rod Trautman who is based in London.
Interior Finish Outdoor Durability
As well as the production of high quality interior furniture and linings, Azzura Marine are now offering marine grade exterior furniture built in composite to their range of services. We are proud to be working with two well known European yards, Lurssen and Oceanco, after being chosen as a supplier of exterior furniture for two of their current major projects.
A true sunworshipper’s dream, a revolving fibreglass sunpad which is fully automated with solid sunshade shells and rotates at the touch of a button, is currently under construction for the Owner of a large motor yacht being built at the Lurssen Yard.
In our continuous efforts to develop new marine manufacturing techniques we have developed a unique method to produce exterior furniture.
By using composite construction finished with resin protected wood cladding we are able to create outdoor furniture which has an extremely high finish normally associated with solid wood interior furniture whilst offering complete marine outdoor durability. This technique is being used to build the bespoke exterior furniture for an 88m motor yacht project for Oceanco in Europe which is designed by Sam Sorgiovanni.
A Global Jigsaw Puzzle
Construction of a 56m motor yacht is well underway at the Trinity Yachts yard in the USA and Azzura Marine have, so far, shipped thirteen shipments of highly intricate, custom built furniture some 15,000Kms from Queensland, Australia, to the southern state of Mississippi in the USA.
To ensure the furniture is installed as accurately and efficiently as possible at Trinity Yacht’s yard, every piece is meticulously constructed and fitted into an exact mock up of the 56m’s cabins at our facility on the Gold Coast, before being packed and shipped to the USA in climate controlled and fully insulated containers. It is finally installed on board the motor yacht by our onsite team of craftspeople.
Australia’s First Superyacht Conference
The 2011 Australian Superyacht and Marine Export Conference (ASMEX) was held recently two days prior to the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show. The conference, supported by local industry and government, provided the latest update on what is happening in the Australian and global superyacht and marine export industries. With over 100 delegates it proved to be an excellent discussion forum for the future of the industry, as well as being as excellent networking opportunity.
