Balk Shipyard in the Netherlands has won the contract to outfit the 65-metre classic schooner Mikhail S. Vorontsov, which has the largest wooden hull built since 1909. Sailing yacht Mikhail S. Vorontsov, has a concept design by Valeriy G. Stepanenko, naval architecture by Gerard Dykstra & Partners and interior design by Ken Freivokh.
Balk Shipyard will be outfitting the Mikhail S. Vorontsov schooner in collaboration with the Turkish yard Dream Ship Victory. The 53-metre bare hull had already been built in laminated wood in Turkey by Dream Ship Victory, and has now been transported to the Netherlands. The three-masted classic staysail rigged yacht is due to be launched in the summer of 2012 and is Balk Shipyard’s largest new build project to date.
Created for luxurious and comfortable sailing with unrestricted navigation, the concept design of the yacht is by Valeriy G. Stepanenko.
Gerard Dykstra & Partners are responsible for the naval architecture with Ken Freivokh taking care of the interior design. Balk Shipyard has been commissioned to ensure sailing yacht Mikhail S. Vorontsov is completed to the highest Dutch standards of superyacht construction and be fully RINA classified.
Also built entirely of laminated wood, the yacht’s unique superstructure will generate an extraordinary atmosphere. The primary helm position will be on the aft deck in the owner’s area, with a second navigation and communication centre located in the forward deckhouse for when privacy is required. Yacht Mikhail S. Vorontsov will be fitted with aluminium spars and carbon booms. All eight sails are roller furled will be operated via a hydraulic semi-automatic system that allows for easy handling of the 1478 m² sail area.
The spacious main deck includes a private saloon for the owners and a lovely lounge with a comfortable dining area and large bar. Aft of the engine room will be superior accommodations for ten people in five suites, including an owners’ stateroom featuring a sauna and a gym. The good-sized forward crew area offers quarters for ten.
