Baltic Yachts has started work on a new Baltic 107 Custom yacht which is a 107-foot fast cruising sailing yacht built in lightweight carbon composite construction. The contract was signed this spring and delivery of the Baltic 107 Custom sailing yacht will take place in 2013.
The owner is a passionate sailor who enjoys sailing in hot climates and the Caribbean in particular, but also cruising up the cooler North American coast. While the Baltic 107 Custom will be very high performance, its prime purpose is fast, efficient and comfortable cruising.
The well recognised and experienced German Frers was chosen as the Naval Architect of the Baltic 107 Custom yacht. German Frers, who are known for designing beautiful yachts with good performance, and Baltic Yachts are delighted to be working with the successful Frers design office again.
Interior styling of the Baltic 107 sailing yacht will come from Adam Lay, who has worked with Baltic Yachts before when he was working for John Munford on the Baltic 141 Canica sailing yacht project. Adam is designing a very modern, elegant interior using oak as the primary wood.
Nigel Ingram of MCM will be the project manager of the S/Y Baltic 107, with Mark von Drashek appointed as yacht manager. Baltic Yachts’ North American representative, George Bourgoignie, who works closely with the owner, will also be involved throughout the project.
Following the success of the ‘split mould’ construction of the Baltic 83 sailing yacht, Baltic yachts will applying the same process to the 107’ yacht. They will build a port and starboard side female CNC mould, both of which will incorporate the transom and the deck. The ability to install interior items more efficiently and the fact that you can always work from floor level rather than walk up and down steps all the time help shorten construction time significantly. This will help Baltic Yachts meet their target of a delivery date of summer 2013.
With shallow draft but also comfortable interior living both priorities, the 107 Baltic sailing yacht will be fitted with a telescopic keel so as not to impinge on the saloon area. The carbon rig will be supported by carbon fibre rigging, one example of the high performance aspirations of this yacht.
