Today, July 15, 2014, was marked by the official opening of the first private yacht marina in Port Sochi Imeretinskiy, part of Russian industrial group, Basic Element. The marina’s first phase available for use features 40 berths for yachts of all sizes.
Imeretinskiy marina is set to be an exclusive waterfront development with up-to-date mooring equipment, dry dock and infrastructure facilities e.g. shops and restaurants.
The marina consists of three rows of floating docks and piers capable of mooring up to 40 vessels of a maximum length of 45m and 7.8m draft including mono- and multi-hulls. Superyachts of up to 120m length can also dock in the secured port waters. Owners of motor boats and sea scooters can park their vehicles in a specially designated area in the marina.
Among the services available are 24/7 watch keeping, boat cleaning, absentee yacht management, transportation by ferry to the marina and assistance with berthing. Each berth is equipped with energy supply systems as well as water supply.
The facility is part of the Imeretinskiy resort complex which served as the main Olympic village during the 22nd Winter Olympics in Sochi. Located within walking distance to the Olympic Park, the village accommodated almost 3,000 athletes during the Games. Now it has been transformed into a residential area with more than 2,000 apartments and the yacht marina. The yacht port can be used both by Imeretinskiy residents and guests from all over the world.
“With almost 300 days of sunshine a year, lush greenery, 90 miles of coastline and European-level services in Imeretinskiy, Sochi is a great cruising destination, and we are glad to launch the marina four months after the Olympics,” Andrei Elinson, Basic Element’s deputy head and managing director of Imeretinskiy says, adding that the marina will be further expanded in line with the demand for berths.
“The facility meets international standards and offers wide range of services. There will be more mooring equipment and services over the following years, the marina will be developed in line with the port’s reshaping program,” according to Elinson.
He added that Port Sochi Imeretinskiy which shares the Black Sea waters with the marina, will operate as a cargo and a passenger port. During the Olympics cruise liners used as floating mega hotels for the guests and organizers of the Games were harbored in the port.
